Few things make me a happier teacher than finding a website with excellent, free resources. ReadWriteThink.org, a collaboration of the Internatonal Reading Association and the National Council of Teachers of English, provides me with high quality, useful and road-tested lesson ideas for all of the grade levels and skills I teach.
I especially love their interactive graphic organizers. Their essay map tool help students to plan their essay in a manner on and beyond the traditional outline. Their trading card creator, character bio cube creator, and interactive printing press turn the tedious prewriting and organization aspects of writing into a fun, interactive technological experience. Students can use the generators online, then choose to save, email or print them. Furthermore, these programs can be used to plan writing in any curricular area. (How very Common Core.)
If you are looking for a way to engage your students, ReadWriteThink.org is your new best friend!
